Whether your gameday routine is one of the following, or something different, each player has their own way of getting ready for a game. It is important for you, as an athlete, to understand that having adrenalin is very big and can affect your play tremendously. There is no right or wrong way to get motivated. Some players may not have to do much to get motivated while others may have to go above and beyond. There is nothing wrong with either of these methods if you get there.

I just wanted to reach out to those who are at their senior year, which for most, is their last few times playing the sport that they have been playing for a long time now. It is okay to feel scared, but understand the importance of not taking it all for granted.
Personally, I am in the same boat as I type this. Dated April 6th, 2020. My senior year will begin in mid August and end about Mid November. Those are three short months that I need to soak all in. Whether your senior year begins in the fall or the spring, it is coming. We all have a senior year, we all come to an end with our sports. It is life. Now it is time to think about what life you have, outside of sports.

Screencast O Matic is a tool that a lot of my teachers are using during distance learning, that I have found to be very useful to get their point across. Screencast O Matic is a very user-friendly website. The website is free, but you do have to create an account with them in order to use it. This platform is online, which means you must have Wi-Fi. The only materials that you need are a microphone to record yourself talking.
Screencast O Matic is a tool that could be used for digital storytelling. The way it works is that you record your voice narrating, while showing whatever is on your screen. A lot of my teachers use PowerPoint and talk through the PowerPoint using screencast o matic, and then the whole video to us so we can listen / watch it. On the website, there is a storage, that allows you to save all your recordings on there. The technology that is required of you to use this tool is a computer, and again, a microphone which is probably built into your computer, the age requirement for this is for mature audiences. There is no age too young, you just need to be able to understand a computer.
Overall, I do recommend this tool for those who are teaching online, or just want to tell a story about something without showing their face. The only weakness about all of this, is that if you wanted to show your face, you cannot. But other than that, I recommend this to any and everyone. There are a lot of helpful tools, like you see above, to help guide you through this website.
In order to begin a recording, once you have created your account, you must click “start free recording” and then there will be a big square around your screen. Once you see this, you then exit out anything you do not want your audience to see on the screen. Then you should pull up whatever it is that you do want your audience to see and there will be a three second countdown before the recording begins. Once you are done recording, can save the video and watch it before sharing with others.
Did something go wrong and you were not able to play for the year?
What exactly is a red shirt year? A redshirt year is a year that a student athlete gets back, only if approved. There are two different types a “redshirt” years. There is a medical redshirt and then a standard redshirt. A medical redshirt is only offered if you are injured within the first 30% of the regular season. If you are in that range, you can apply to redshirt and not lose a year of eligibility. Now a regular redshirt is considered typically for a player who does not play during that season at all. This can mean that they practice, but if they do not appear in any games, they can apply to redshirt.

Redshirting years can be very depressing and can make you lose some confidence just because you are not able to be out there playing the sport you love while all of your friends are.
One quote that I pulled from this article was “Remember, these will be some of the best years of your life, so redshirting provides one more year to thoroughly enjoy that college experience.” This quote spoke to me, find something that speaks to you in this article and run with it.
According to the NCAA, all freshman are required to have a thing called “study hall”. This is where you are given a certain amount of time, along with a quiet place to do any work that you may need done. In order to get out of study hall as a student athlete, you must contain at least a 3.2 GPA. Your freshman year is probably one of your most important semesters because that is when you are able to start a fresh, clean slate of grades. For those of you who do not focus your freshman year and slack off, you will most likely end up in a deep hole that will be hard to get out of. However, if you start out strong, the likelihood that you will drop your GPA is a lot less likely. Having a strong semester also gives you that cushion for that hard class that you take in your upper level courses.
Time management is very important. This can be very hard if you are not provided the guidance and resources needed. When you are first learning to be independent, you find that having a lot of free time on your hands in college could result in not finding the right time to do things. In other words, you wait until the last minute to do something, when in reality you had a whole lot of time on your hands but how you spend it is up to you.
While creating this meme, I was looking for a picture that showed me that when you find your eyes are beginning to look strained and red, you might be super tired. There is nothing wrong with being tired, so do not be ashamed of it.
I chose this meme because it really just spoke to me. Some of my worst moments in college were when I was too sleepy to function, but I will not admit it to other people because then I felt like I would be judged. A lot of people like to automatically assume that if you were up late, you were up to no good which is not always the case. Typically, when I am up late, I am up doing homework or something productive. With that being said, I know exactly how it feels to be super tired and not own up to it.
The most important part about being a student is making sure that you are getting the proper sleep needed to tackle each day. There are many signs to look for if you are believing that you may not be meeting the amount of hours that you need. In order for students to be able to play, you must be performing in the classroom. This all ties in with getting the proper amount of sleep!
In the article link, it talks about the importance sleep has on athletic performance. One thing that students always do is take naps. The article says that naps can be very beneficial for student athletes who may not be getting sleep at night, and then are having to wake up super early for competition. The articles says that a 20 minute nap is about all it takes, it says nothing about a 2 hour nap that most people take, when they find time. If you are a student athlete who takes 2 hour naps daily and then wonder why you can’t sleep at night, this may be your problem. The article also talks about the importance of enough sleep, and not too much during a nights sleep. On average, a healthy amount of sleep is about 7 hours on the weekdays and 7.4 hrs on the weekends.
Living as a college students is already hard enough, but having to feed yourself can be even more of a challenge because now you no longer have your mom or dad cooking for you. But, when you are also playing sports, finding time can be even harder. Making time is the key to success in this area. Students do not understand the importance of eating until they begin to fill weak and lacking energy. Preventing this before it happens can save a lot of health problems in the end. If we learn to find the time for the important things and not for the things we want all the time, we will live a lot healthier life. Also making sure that you are eating the foods specific to your lifestyle are just as important.

These recipes are all made to one servings, which is perfect for a college student cooking for themselves every single night. These recipes are also designed to be on the healthier side, which is also why I decided to use it. Most people do not like the term “healthy”, but hate the feeling after eating foods that are not healthy. This website gives you some good healthy foods, that will not give you that terrible feeling when finished.
